Athlete Spotlight: Brooke Hallman, Auburn HS
As she received her custom, blinged-out ring, Auburn High School’s Brooke Hallman was reminiscing on this past fall when she led her team to an AHSAA Flag Football state title.
What started as a fun activity to keep busy in the offseason, ended up becoming one of the biggest accomplishments in Hallman’s athletic career thus far.
“Me and my brother played on a church league flag football team as kids,” Hallman explained. “Then last year, I decided it'd be a good idea just to try it out because I'm athletic and I just kind of felt like I'd be good at it. I played again this year when we got the ring.”
The 2022 OANOW Flag Football Player of the Year played quarterback for the Tigers. This season she threw for 2,135 yards, 42 touchdowns and in the 25-6 win over Oxford in the state final, completed 19-of-29 passes for 224 yards.
While Hallman may only be a sophomore, in two short years she has built quite an athletic resume. She found copious amounts of success in basketball and track and field as well.
Most recently she played a vital role in the girls' basketball team’s playoff run and was named All-Area Player of the year. She eventually plans to pursue basketball at the collegiate level.
Hallman’s natural athletic ability has allowed her to pick up a new venture she was never previously interested in: javelin.
“I do think my athleticism helps a lot. Like javelin was super weird to me and I was like, ‘gosh, I can't do this,’ but then, I started kind of getting it down, so now it's becoming more natural to me, but I definitely feel like sports come naturally to me,” Hallman said.
With two years left of high school, Hallman is driven towards getting two more flag football state championship rings, to go further in basketball and to rank up in javelin.
